HCD-1020 Blog Entry #1

My knowledge of greek mythology extents not far from knowing who Zeus is and saying "so and so is the god of....." I do know a couple deities off the top of my head: Zeus, Hera, Athena, Hercules (?), Apollo, Aphrodite, and Poseidon. I've heard the names of these greek gods and goddesses from stories and books I've read over the years, and from knowing a little bit about astronomy, but most of it comes from reading the Illiad and the Odyssey before.
Hearing these stories, you get a sense that the personalities of these characters are more tangible than you would at first assume. Zeus's tendency to act impulsively and selfishly is extremely relatable to people. The human characteristics these deities have are what I think makes the myths easy to follow and learn from. This was the Greek's religion after all. It just happens that in this case the idols to which the people looked up to were not as mysterious as far as knowing their inner workings.
